December

December brought a joyful mix of creativity and reflection to the schoolhouse as we practiced slowing down during a busy season.

Our mornings focused on the fruit of the Spirit Patience, paired with Proverbs 15:18. Students worked on taking turns, problem-solving together, and showing kindness to one another. We also learned winter weather and temperature words in ASL, connecting our language learning to the season around us.

In music, we explored “We Wish You a Merry Christmas,” learning about quarter notes and half notes through listening, clapping, and movement.

We kicked off the month reading A Homemade Together Christmas, by Maryann Cocca-Leffler which inspired our homesteading focus on handmade and homemade gifts.

A highlight was making clay ornaments and welcoming Ms. Miranda, who taught us how to make homemade soap! Everyone got to make one to take home for their family.

Our Tuesday/Thursday building project had students designing and creating a 3-D cardboard Christmas tree for our classroom, practicing teamwork and patience along the way.

In history, we focused on the Nativity and the birth of Jesus, while our Tuesday/Thursday class also learned about Connecticut, Delaware, and Florida.

One class favorite this month was The Hat by Jan Brett. Students loved re-enacting the story using popsicle stick puppets, their own hats, gloves, and scarves, and our classroom clothesline.

December was full of hands-on learning, creativity, and growing together as a classroom community. We’re grateful for a meaningful end to the year and excited to see what January brings.

Have a Merry Christmas!
