November brought deeper learning and slower, steady rhythms to the schoolhouse as we transitioned into colder weather.

Our mornings centered on the fruit of the Spirit Peace, paired with our monthly verse, 1 Peter 5:7. Students learned the song “I’ve Got Peace Like a River” along with the ASL signs, and enjoyed music sessions with a new favorite “And the Green Grass Grew!”

Outside, students observed cover crops sprouting in the garden beds they planted earlier this fall. The last woolly worms of the season made brief appearances before settling in for winter.
In science, students explored solids, liquids, and gases through hands-on experiments like melting ice, boiling water, and shaking cream into butter, and observing physical and chemical changes.

Our homesteading unit focused on the value of homemade food, nutrients, and a few cooking skills. Each week, students prepared simple recipes to add to their personal recipe books. A highlight was welcoming guest educator Ms. Lisa, who demonstrated how her family mills grain and bakes bread. Students then baked their own loaves and enjoyed them with the butter they had made the week prior.

In literacy and social studies, we explored stories of the first Thanksgiving, traditions of gratitude around the world, and the relationships between pilgrims and Native Americans. We read The Thanksgiving Story by Alice Dalgliesh and Harvest Days – Giving Thanks Around the World, sparking meaningful conversations and cultural curiosity.

November offered many opportunities for students to learn by doing, through music, food, science, and history. We’re grateful for the continued growth happening within these walls and excited for all that lies ahead in December!
