In our studies, we began exploring ecosystems and the living world, learning about living and non-living things, food chains, and different types of animals.
Our nature studies brought us outdoors to observe apples, the autumn equinox, birds of prey, and arachnids.
We also began our The Good and the Beautiful history studies and practiced new American Sign Language vocabulary connected to our nature studies.
Our hands stayed busy with homesteading, gardening, art, and building. Students prepared garden beds, added soil and compost, planted a cover crop, and created garden stakes to label which box is theirs.

We also made classroom name and birthday tags, painted watercolor owls, and enjoyed creating our own zentangle pumpkins. In music, we focused on voice and singing while learning several seasonal songs, including “Oh, Apple,” “That Owl,” and “Autumn Hiking Song.”
September has been a wonderful month of settling in, learning together, and enjoying the first signs of autumn at Juneberry Hill. We are so thankful for the joy, curiosity, and hard work each student brings to our schoolhouse!
