Welcome to our Second Year!
This fall has been a season of settling into rhythms and routines while leaving space for lots of hands-on discovery. We have two different groups of students attending the schoolhouse this year and everything is off to a great start!

The students have been carefully observing and monitoring monarchs emerging from their chrysalises and documenting it in their nature journals.

We spent time creating name stakes for their garden boxes, and collected seeds from plants around the schoolhouse. We explored the foundations of soil through soil experiments, looking at what soil is made of and the layers of soil in the earth, and comparing how a bean seed sprouts in soil versus in a bag in the window.

Around our garden teepee, students pulled weeds and then added compost they stirred from our compost bin. In October, we’ll be sowing a cover crop on the garden boxes to build healthy soil for spring planting.

In History and Geography, we began by talking about communities—what makes a neighborhood strong, and how we can be a classroom community that supports one another across ages and abilities.

We are looking forward to a visit from our first guest educators Chris and Becky, who will bring their dog, Piper, to demonstrate training for different jobs.
It’s been a hands-on and joy-filled start to the year, and we’re eager for all that’s ahead!
